People say that a dog is a man's best friend. I say that a turtle too can be a person's best friend.
Here are 7 reasons why turtles makes good pet, especially for children.
1. Small
Turtles are small and suitable in a confined house. Unlike monkeys and dogs, they don outgrow their size.
2. Cute
Turtles have a personality. They are shy creatures and do not like to be disturbed or manhandled. They hid inside their shell when they are frightened just like kids hid beneath their blanket. They can recognise their owner. They know when it is feeding time. They are better than a robot.
3. Cheap
Compared to other pets, they are affordable even for a kid. They are easy to find. You can buy them in most pet shops.
4. Harmless
Turtles are harmless. They don't bite unless you feed your fingers. They are pretty happy being alone as a single pet.
5. Easy to maintain
They are easy to maintain and simple to care. Just feed them, give them space to move around and leave them alone. They don't like to be disturbed. You don't need to dress them out the way most people dress their poodles. They live long life - as long as 25 years to 100 years. They can even outlive their owners.
You don't have to bring them for their daily evening walk or clean their poop in public. They have less health problems than cats and dogs.
6. Mobile
Turtles are light. Children can bring it with them to school, to show off to their friends.
7. Life Lesson
Turtles are ideal for childre. Children learn at early age how to care for others and love God's creatures. They learn about responsibility - changing the water, cleaning the tank and feeding the turtle. They learn about science, the eco-system and care for the environment.
Turtle provides you a lifetime of companionship
Here is the bonus reason. Your girlfriend can come and go, but a turtle is your companion for life. If you don't have a date, get yourself a turtle! A turtle is a man's best friend.

I don't have a pet turtle although I used to have a cat. I love animals. As a freelance writer, I can write on almost any subjects. I learn as I research on the subject. That's the fun part of a writer. The more I write, the more I learn.

Turtles are not ideal pets for children. Both turtles and tortoises have special care needs and can carry salmonela which can infect children. Also, many turtle and tortoise species are taken illegally from the wild. Please reconsider recommending these animals as pets.
I agree with Cathleen. Thanks for the enlightenment. Living things need tender loving care and if the owners don't know how to care for animals or get bored easily, get a stuffed turtle toy instead.

I like your enthusiasm about turtles, but I have to disagree with your first reason unless you were talking about a specific adult turtle. If a person buys a baby and puts it in a 20 gal tank, they will eventually need to upgrade. Some turtles get so big, it's challenging to keep them while providing adequate space. I also disagree with reason 5. A lot of reptiles need UVB radiation or sunlight and need specific nutrition and a very clean environment. I don't mean to be a wet blanket, I just care a lot about turtles and keeping them is not as easy as you're making it sound. All the best.

Turtles live for a very long time and they grow to be really big. Then they are not small any more, or cheap (tank get bigger, more food, ...), and kids (and adults) end up deciding to give them away, or worse, "release them in the wild", when they have been hand fed since born. A terrible thing to do to a turtle. Also, depending on where you live, your native turtles may be species at risk. It is illegal to have a species at risk in captivity without a permit. Chances are that what you're buying at the pet store is Red Ear Slider, which is an invasive species.
So in summary, having a turtle as a pet is a very bad idea. Get a cat instead.
Turtles are very good pets.In fact, I have a baby turtle myself.His name is Franklin.He's easy to care.He's five c.m and one i.n LONG!!!I think every one must have at least one turtle because there easy to care.:)

i just want to make something clear hear...i totally agree that yes turtles are very lovely and cute creatures and one can instantly fall in love with their innocence...but please don't have this misconception that they do not require any care
they need a lot of care and attention which everybody cannot provide
first of all it is totally wrong that they can live in small spaces... the truth is they need a large tank to live because they love swimming and they also grow VERY FAST so you need to have a big tank even if you are buying a baby turtle because it will grow within no time...also the correct temperature of water in which they live should be maintained,correct lighting should be provided to them,their diet should vary and a lot more
also they carry a disease which can be harmful to every member of your family...they also grow very faster and after a year they do not remain that much cute so you might wanna get rid of them
hence i beg all of you...please don't buy a pet turtle until and unless you've done enough research about kind of turtle which you're going to buy...i love these creatures and i have done a lot of research about them and i am a successful owner of a turtle since 3 years.

please have some mercy on these lovely creatures
